Claire's Travelling Volkswagen

Postby mars » Sat Feb 20, 2010 8:23 pm

Here are some photos of its adventures in Mars, PA. The reason why chose Albert Heiles as the first person to start the "Travelling Volkswagen" saga; He owns an original "Herbie the Love Bug". The car is #6 used in the 1980 movie "Herbie Goes Bananas". Also, he lives in a town named Mars (do I need to explain? LOL...)

Super, Brad.

Kim and I love the photos (Ben and Claire are spending the night at their aunt's house). A picture of the Bug with the President and Elvis ROCKS. It is so weird to see HWC Chris with short hair. Kim wanted me to tell you that the Bug is young, especially with the ladies and the beer     . It is always good to see a family reunion. Can you please send us all of the photos? Kim is starting Claire's scrapbook.

Wow, Brad, nice pics. I hope we can come at least close to the excitement that Bug has seen in Vegas. Good job. :D

Here are the photos of the "Travelling Volkswagen" in Wellton, Arizona. Bill took some awesome photos and also wrote the captions. I copied them and posted it with the pictures.

Well, Claire's "Travelling Volkswagen" has arrived in Tacoma, Washington. I found a website that calculates distance travelled, and Claire's VW Bug has travelled 3408 miles already. That is including from our apartment, too.

Also, Bill, I checked with the Guiness Book of World Records book and there is no mention of a toy travelling around the world. So, this may have the potential of starting a World Record (especially after 3-5 years).

Wow! Your plan is working just as it was drawn up! Congratulations! I hope I'm around when the bug finally comes home. That will be a Historical day. Let's call it "Claire's Day" and declare it a Holiday. :D :D :D

We have received photos of Claire's "Travelling Volkswagen" hiatus in Tacoma, Washington.

Ed Lansford wrote the commentary and I posted them with the pics. The VW Bug has left Washington and I am awaiting for word that it has arrived at its new destination.

Claire's "Travelling Volkswagen" has finally arrived at its destination. It is an honor and my pleasure to announce that the Bug is in Iraq. We sent it to a U.S. soldier. He is going to try to take photos of his Army Camp, the Iraqi mountains, and try to get photos of the Iraqi-Syrian border. Needless to say, I will post every photo he takes onto Hallsguide. Facebook and HWC will get a smaller amount of pictures.

A little history: Kim and I spent two months organizing this event. The soldier is a second cousin. We sent countless e-mails, PMs, and notes on Facebook. When we wrote to him about what we doing, he wanted to be involved from the get-go. The logistics and the organization took the longest to put together. We also sent about 10 pounds of snacks and candy for him and his Army buddies. Also, we sent Ben's digital camera for all the photos (including extra AA batteries for a lot of pictures).

Now a teaser; When he sends the camera back to us, there is a second box for the VW Bug to be mailed back to the USA. Who will get the "Travelling Volkswagen"?
