1969 Redlines Variation List

The information compiled in this thread is from the book "The Ultimate Redline Guide 1968-1977 Second Edition"
by Jack Clark & Robert P. Wicker.


All the colors are listed in the order of difficulty (the first color being the easier to find and the last the most
difficult to find), unless otherwise noted. Metal Collector Buttons came with all Hong Kong models, unless otherwise
noted.



1. Classic '31 Ford Woody

The Classic '31 Ford Woody was produced only in the US. It has a painted radiator and an exposed engine. It came with either textured glossy black vinyl roof or a flat black painted roof.

2. Classic '32 Ford Vicky

The Classic '32 Ford Vicky was produced only in the US. It has a painted radiator and an exposed engine. Most of the models came with the flat black painted roof. However, there were some colors that came with the textured black roof. Also, early production cars with the Open Suspension variarion is rare.

3. Classic '36 Ford Coupe

The Classic '36 Ford Coupe was produced only in the US. It has a black interior, a detailed opening rumble seat, and a flat black painted roof. Most of the coupes have a striped rumble seat. There are some cars that have a button-tufted rumble seat and they can have one to nine buttons. Coupes with a white interior are considered rare.

4. Classic '57 -'Bird

The Classic '57 -'Bird was produced only in the US. It has a painted or an unpainted grille, a detailed engine compartment, and a forward-opening hood.

5. Custom AMX

The Custom AMX was produced only in the US. It has a detailed engine compartment and an opening hood. There were no Custom AMX's produced with a black roof. There was an Ed Shaver AMX issued in the United Kingdom only. It was given away at events where Ed Shaver appeared. Leftover inventory were sold in stores. There are a handful of examples known to exist. The car is blue with Ed Shaver stickers. The color is not rare, but 99% of the value is from the stickers.

6. Custom Charger

The Custom Charger was produced only in the US. It has a black painted grille, a white interior, a detailed engine compartment, and an opening hood. There were no Custom Chargers produced with a black roof.

7. Continental Mark III

The Continental Mark III was produced only in the US. It has a detailed engine compartment and an openeing hood. Most Continental Mark III's have a white interior. Models with a black interior are less common.

8. Maserati Mistral

The Maserati Mistral was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a detailed engine compartment and a forward-opening hood. All colors have been found with black roofs and are more difficult to find.

9. Mercedes-Benz 280SL

The Mercedes-Benz 280SL was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a detailed engine compartment and an opening hood. There were some colors that had black roofs and are less common.

10. Police Cruiser

The Police Cruiser was produced only in the US. The Police Cruiser is the first Hot Wheels vehicle to have a tampo. 'POLICE' and a badge are on the side doors. The trunk and hood are painted black. The base has the name 'Cruiser' on it. There are a few early cars that have black painted fenders and are quite rare.

11. Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a detailed engine compartment and an opening hood. There are some colors that have black roofs.

The Splittin' Image was produced only in the US. It has an exposed supercharged engine with tail pipes that extend the lenghth of the car that separates the dual cockpits. This was one of the first concept cars created by Mattel designers.

The Twin Mill was produced only in the US. It has two exposed engines behind the front wheels. There were some Twin Mills that have gold chrome engines.

16. Volkswagen Beach Bomb (Side Load)

The Volkswagen Beach Bomb was produced only in Hong Kong. It has slots over the rear wheels and contains orange and yellow surfboards.

Volkswagen Beach Bomb (Rear Load)

The Volkswagen Beach Bomb was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a slender body with orange and yellow surfboards sticking out of the rear window. This model was the initial design and then rejected. It has been said that it was rejected due to it being too narrow to pass through the Super Chargers. Most of the initial production run was destroyed and the few remaining pieces were saved by Mattel employees.

Grand Prix Series:

1. Brabham-Repco F-1

The Brabham-Repco F-1 was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a blue tint window and a black interior is common. However, white interiors are rare (The red body is the most common with the white interior, the other colors are even harder to find). So far, no example of a tan interior has been found. Also, some of the Brabham-Repco F-1's have been found with black painted bases.

2. Chaparral 2G

US version have a clear windshield and a black interior. It also comes with a decal sheet with racing numbers '66'. The '66' numbers are thin. Some have been found with brown interiors and are hard to find.

3. Ford Mk IV

The Ford Mk IV has a rear-opening engine cover and features a detailed compartment. This model was produced in Hong Kong and in the US.

US version has recessed body detail lines and clear windshield. The car somes with stickers; A white circle with the number '1' in it and black and white stripes for the hood, roof, and the trunk.

4. Indy Eagle

The Indy Eagle was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a blue tint windshield and usually has a black interior. It also comes with a decal sheet; A white oval and the number '48' in it and sponsors emblems. Some models had a tan interior and are less common and white inteiors are quite rare (red is the common body color with the white interior). Some models had flat black or glossy black painted base. Some had silver bases and are hard to find and ones with gold bases came with the gold chrome version.

5. Lola GT70

The Lola GT70 has a rear-opening engine cover with a detailed engine compartment.

US version has clear windows, small taillights, and recessed body lines. It also comes with yellow circular stickers with a ten in it. However, the ten looks like this, "|0". It also has yellow stripes, too.

6. Lotus Turbine

The Lotus Turbine was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a blue tint windshield and a black interior. Tan interiors are less common and white interiors are very rare. Some models were found with black painted bases. It also came with decal sheet with a black block racing number "70" and assorted sponsors emblem.

7. McLaren M6A

The McLaren M6A has a rear-opening engine cover with a detailed engine compartment. There is a decal sheet with the racing number "4", too.

US version has a clear windshield, vents on the fenders, detailed body lines, and a vent on the spoiler. The interior is black. However, there have been some found with tan interiors and are considered rare.

The Shelby Turbine was produced only in Hong Kong. It has a blue tint windshield and a black interior. Tan interiors are less common and white interiors are very rare. It also comes with a decal sheet with a rectangular "Shelby" logo, racing number "69", and sponsor emblems.
