Recently I heard Matchbox has unmarked "chase" vehicles. Is it true or not?

I have not read anything to suggest there are. Where did hear this, Dave?

In an MB report commenting on or a post asking about this very subject, something about chase vehicles in ten packs was brought up and that they (MB) would try to make sure the packs were better marked to that effect. My memory is not the best, but I believe that was the gist.

A friend of mine who collects HWs said his brother collects Matchbox. He told me about these alledged chase versions. I am extremely sceptical. In fact I don't believe it...at least not yet. If you guys can't confirm it, he must be nuts.

More to the story: He said there are special colors, alternate wheels and other things that can make them "chase". I've NEVER even seen errors!

I know Matchbox puts cars in their 10 packs that can't be found in the regular mainline. They are variations on color and wheels. Also, I think their 5 packs are all exclusive colors just like HW's 5 packs have been since 2002.
I don't think these are actual "chase" cars as we know them.
They are more like the exclusive car in the HW 10 packs, that can only be found in those packs. I think this is probably what they were talking about, trying to do a better job of identifying them on the box. They currently don't have any markings on the box at all about exclusive cars.
I believe that MB also does a couple of 10 packs a year that all 10 cars are exclusive colors. This is similar to the HW "chase" 10 pack, as some are calling it, that showed up recently.

As far as, regular mainline cars, MB tried to introduce "chase" cars to the line some years ago, with the cars with the MB logo on them, and the MB collector community erupted against it. They are a different sort of collector. They don't like a lot of variations and changes. They are content with 1 or 2 versions of each car to come out each year. As far as I know, they haven't done anything like that recently with the possible exception of the special color on 3 castings for the 50th anniversary.

I hope this helps with your question!
Rod

The Routemaster Bus is awesome, I need to find two of them. The Vista Cruiser is cool, too.

WOO HOO on the Vista!!! I found two this AM. That car has been one of the most anticipated releases in a while. (Darn near equal to the Connect Cars Hot Bird -which I still have yet to find.)

I also found a Mercedes SLR McLaren and a sweet black w/red stripe Porsche 911 GT3. I also saw a brownish primer color baja bug and a gold ZR-1. There were more I just can't remember.

Can't believe I am getting this excited over new MBX releases.

BTW, I LOVE the Vista just the way it is, but it is just BEGGING for a repaint and some RR's.....

OH, one other thing, On the base of the Vista just above the date code "B25", there is a little elephant....What does this mean?

Interesting. I never noticed that elephant before. I should ask over at the other sites.

Awesome finds, Juan. Where did all of those Volkswagen 4x4 come from? I know I am one behind, but four behind. Yikes.

The flat brown is a new single. The light gray is from a new 10 pack and the teal is from a new 5 pack.

Here are my finds for today and probably for the rest of the week.

The Routemaster Bus is quite possibly my favorite non-Volkswagen casting.

Congrats on the finds, Mark. The Routemaster Bus is my favorite non-VW casting, as well. 8)
